MIA and ACCA Sign Agreement to Benefit Thousands of Finance Professionals

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) has engaged in an MOU (Memorandum of understanding) for the development of accountancy profession, in and around Malaysia, by working in collaboration. As per this MOU, ACCA will be giving an incentive to the reputed MIA members, who are not having a professional accountancy qualification, by creating a way through which they can achieve ACCA membership.

The ACCA has agreed to offer an exemption of first nine papers of ACCA (F1-F9) to MIA members that are entitled. Further registration and exemption fee will not be required. This exclusive route towards ACCA membership for MIA students is applicable for the next three years starting from the day the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is signed.

Resultantly lots of finance specialists in Malaysia will derive benefit from this step and will be able to gain membership of a professional accounting body whose qualification is recognized in around 180 countries of the world. At the signing ceremony of this MOU, MIA and ACCA were represented by the President Johan Idris and Stephen Heathcote (the Executive Director of Markets at ACCA) respectively.

Stephen said that ACCA is pleased to sign this MOU and presumes that this important step will assist in producing accounting professionals in Malaysia who will surely participate in the development of Malaysian and overall economy.

The President of MIA, Johan Idris said that this agreement will increase the cooperation between the two bodies on certain areas identified for the purpose of improving accounting profession in Malaysia. The partnership agreement also requires ACCA and MIA to coordinate with each other at policy level and research work.

Stephen said that for the last 40 years ACCA has been working with MIA for the purpose of development of accounting profession in Malaysia and it anticipates to make more joint efforts with MIA for the betterment of profession.
