China Climate Change Expert Joins PwC Sustainability Team

PWC HAS appointed an expert on China's climate change policies to its UK team on environmental issues.

Allan Zhang joins the Big Four firm's sustainability and climate change team on a two-year secondment.

Advising companies on how to reduce their carbon footprints and comply with new regulations, including the carbon reduction commitment, is a potentially lucrative area for the big accounting firms.

Previously, Zhang lead PwC's sustainability and climate change team in Beijing, China. He will help PwC's public and private-sector clients understand and deal with sustainability and climate change issues in China.

Malcolm Preston, global lead sustainability and climate change, PwC said that Zhang's secondment came at a "critical point" for China's policies on climate change.

The China government's 12th Five Year Plan includes heavy investment in environmentally friendly technologies and targets for reducing pollution.

Zhang is a specialist in Chinese sustainability and climate change policy, including carbon management and environmental due diligence.

He previously worked with PwC's Economics team in the UK, and the firm's China business desk.

Before joining PwC, he worked in China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (presently MOFCOM) for 13 years.
