KPMG continues to head the list of auditor rankings by client numbers, with Crowe Clark Whitehill making it into the top 10 for the first time, according to the latest Hemscott Corporate Advisers Rankings Guide.

This quarter’s listing confirms KPMG’s hold on the top position, which it has held since February 2007. The firm gained four new clients, bringing its listed client total to 380. Second-placed PwC recorded a total of 368, also including four new clients in the quarter.

Deloitte and Ernst & Young retained their third and fourth positions respectively, with no change in client numbers. Grant Thornton stayed in fifth place, despite losing seven clients during the quarter, while the order for subsequent ranking was unchanged with BDO followed by PKF and Baker Tilly.

In contrast, Mazars’s loss of five clients in the quarter saw the firm move out of the top 10 to reach 11th place, with a revised client tally of 23. Crowe Clark Whitehill made its debut in the overall auditor top 10 rankings, moving from 13th place to ninth following an eight-client gain to end the quarter with 30 listed clients.

Hemscott’s figures show that PwC continues to have the most FTSE 100 clients, with 39 audits, while KPMG now has second place with a total of 23, having gained a client this quarter. Deloitte is now in third place in the FTSE 100 rankings, with an unchanged client total of 22, while Ernst & Young is fourth with 19. BDO has one client in the FTSE 100.
