AICPA Reports Hiring the Largest Number of Accountants Ever in the Year
In a report by the American Institute of CPAs, public accounting firms recorded the highest number of accounting graduates hired last year alone. On Monday, AIPCA stated that both graduate and undergraduate accounting programs rose up in the academic year of 2013-14 and for the first time, it crossed the 250,000 mark. Compared to the previous survey on the side of recruitment, the accounting graduates hired in 2014 by accounting firms was an increase of 7%. Firms and universities equally believe that the accounting profession will keep growing. In two years after responding to this survey, firms and universities believe that the accounting profession will keep growing. 97 % in bachelor’s program and 70 % in master’s program expect that this enrollment is expected to be higher or remain the same. Big firms are very optimistic regarding hiring. This is an indication that job prospects of present enrollees in recent graduates and accounting programs are quite bright.
While there is an upward trend in hiring and enrollment from the previous survey, the degrees awarded for both undergraduate and graduate degrees revealed a slowed momentum. In a research by AICPA, Accounting programs stressing the CPA importance and recruitment while on campus, raises the interest of a student in becoming a CPA. Upon graduation, a student’s major influence in sitting for the CPA examination is to obtain his employer’s support in pursuing his license including study time off and monetary compensation. On the other hand, those graduates in accounting who get recruited directly from college by companies and the foreign accounting students returning to their countries after graduation stand a few chances of earning their CPA license compared to those who started their careers in public accounting.
There are two programs that are offered by AICPA. The ‘Start Here, Go Places’, offers resources for students and high school educators. ‘The program ‘ This Way to CPA’, is intended for CPA Examination Candidates and College accounting students for purposes of educating students on the likelihood of an accounting career and provide them with guidance and resources as they make their way in to the profession. Moreover, there are many scholarship opportunities offered by AICPA to accounting students through their academic careers.
